    Title:
How to display a report with data filtered by a custom field?
    Content:

I have the contact workspace and added a new field 'Account Number' in the table contact.

I have a tab in the workspace where I want to display the data from a custom table linked with the Account Number.

Both the contact table and the Custom Billing table have the field Account Number.

You didn't provided the relationship details ..like @Carl mentioned, its better off to have FKEY (foreign key) relationship between both tables....like make Contact as parent and then Billing table as child .....so its automatic and system will provide a view for you so you can drag and drop in the contact workspace

Did you set up a relationship between the contact table and your Custom billing table using system attributes?

I would recommend doing that, and then you could add you billing record to the contact record based on the account # but the account number would only be on the CO. Then you will build a report that uses the Contact ID as the key filter with a join to the billing table.  The contact workspace is going to pass the contact id to the report and then the join will identify the CO records so you can include them in your report.

If you didn't build the relationship you can use linked reports but that will require another click to open the linked report.  If you need instructions on how to build a linked report you can find it here: https://cx.rightnow.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2789

The issue is I have several billing records for the same contact. Say I have contact John Parker with account number 12345, I have another table billing with 10 billing records (for 10 months) for the same account number (12345).

I open the contact John parker and have all the information displayed in the contact workspace. I have a new tab called Billing whereby I am displaying a report (Customer Billing Info)

I want to filter the billing info being displayed by the account number of the contact.

      The link used attached.

maybe you can put a fixed filter in the report (make a copy of the existing standard report by clicking on the view in Edit/Design mode) like

      contacts.c$account_number equals Expression contacts.c$account_number

Leave The default run time filter {CustomTable}.c_id=[} as it is

I do not have a c_id in Custom Table Billing. I have the account number of the contact in both tables.

Thanks it worked. I had to put the relationship and import by billing data with the contact ID.
