    Title:
[Under Consideration] Ability to move the tabset on a standard workspace
    User Story / Description:

It would be great to have the ability to move the tabset in a standard workspace.  All of our customized workspaces were developed using the standard workspace as the starting point (tabset on the bottom and fields are listed on the top).  We are shifting to a vertically split workspace design to be more efficient for our agents. So far, I've created an incident workspace that is split vertically which is working very well for my pilot group of agents.

Unfortunately, when I created the updated incident workspace, I had to start from scratch and completely re-create the tabset.  Also, when I re-created the tabset I had to adjust nearly every single one of my workspace rules.  Thanks to Anuj (via our discussion thread - linked here), I know that the Tabset on a standard workspace is actually the parent control in the workspace so it can't be moved.

For those of us who have used the standard workspaces for years (and so have a lot of rules/detail in the standard tabset), it would be really nice to be able to just move that standard tabset, rather than having to re-create it.

I've attached a screenshot of the changes that I'm trying to make, which will hopefully make this more clear.

    Thanks for your consideration!

I agree,Sara, while more functionality has been added to workspaces over the years, their inflexibility in design and editing them has remained the same. As workflow processes and needs change over time, the ability to easily change the workspaces that reflect them should be available as well.

BTW, we've never used the default workspaces and always build our own. Ironically the vertical design was the default layout prior to version 8 and we've found this to be better conducive for working with incidents, knowledge, etc. I'd be curious to see how yours turns out when you're done. Many, many years ago at a RightNow Summit we held a breakout session where we shared numerous workspace layouts, designs, tips & tricks, etc. I'd love to resurrect that session again.

      Hi Sara,

Are you talking about what is pictured here?

    • Sara Knetzger

      Hi David,

Yes, that's exactly what I'm referring to.  I think it would be great to be able to move the original tabset from the standard workspace rather than having to re-create it.

      Thanks!

Kyle, I finished my workspaces and I have some pilot groups testing them now.  I've gotten great feedback from the teams so far and I'm hoping to roll these out to all users by the end of Summer.

I would really love to have a session at the summit/conference on workspace layouts/designs and tips & tricks.  I think that would be phenominal.  I've been able to glean ideas here and there from seeing other customers' workspaces in demos/etc. but an entire session dedicated to idea sharing on this topic would be great!!

I agree Sara, I think the Workspace design environment could be a lot more user-friendly. I was having a very similar issue and I've had to start my design from scratch, which isn't ideal at all.

Great idea for the lab, I hope we can have this in a patch (we're not due to upgrade for a while having recently upgraded to Feb 15) smiley

      Hi Karyn,

A year and half down, are there any updates on this? This feature could potentially save multiple productive hours which we spend just dragging dropping stuff.
