Remove secondary scroll bar in Answer Edit workspace +...

    Title:
Remove secondary scroll bar in Answer Edit workspace + add source colour coding
    User Story / Description:

With 18A changes to the Answer Edit workspace there were two changes which negatively impacted our ability to edit anwers:

    • Source is no longer colour coded
    • There is a secondary vertical scroll bar which means editors have to scroll twice each time they want to move up or down (see screenshots below of 2 actions required to scroll down).
      1. Step 1: the answer content (this applies to both regular edit and source edit views) is at the top
      2. Scrolling down using the "inner" scrollbar, the bottom part of the content is still not visible
      3. Now scrolling down using the "outer" scroll bar to see the bottom of the content.
      4. Now you need to repeat both steps to scroll back up again.

It would be great if either (or both?) of these issues were addressed.

Looks like the new toolbar at the top also scrolls out of view when you use the right-most scrollbar. Although in this answer for some reason I only have 1 scrollbar - which unfortunately removes the toolbar. So to change the text I need to scroll down, select the text, scroll up, select the text option, and then scroll back down.

Another issue found with the new WYSIWYG:

When using "Paste as Text" box, all new lines are sitting inside <div> tags (or this is happening in our case so far).

This means that when trying to add things like bulletpoints (while scrolling up and down multiple times because the toolbar is hidden most of the time since the page is longer than 20 lines of text) some features don't work as expected e.g. indentation to the right works, but to the left doesnt.

I'm not sure whether this now at a point where it needs to be escalated as another SR. These small changes, as insignificant as they may seem, add up, and are definitely impacting content editor's performance.

Agreed - the double scroll bars and the divs are really annoying.

Interestingly, in our 18A upgrade site, there was only one scrollbar (the outer one). This caused a problem of its own as the new CKEditor toolbar would disappear when scrolling down an article. So that needs to be taken into consideration when going to fix this issue. OR just bring the old editor back!

Yup we had a couple of setups where we only had one set of scrollbars, but the menu scrolling out of view is just infuriating. Having to scroll down, select the text, scroll up, select the heading type, and then scroll down again to continue.

Notepad++ and a set of sample bits of code such as conditional sections etc. This seems to be the most efficient workaround as long as your editors are somewhat comfortable with basic html.

We're experiencing the same issues with the nested scrollbar inside another space that has a scroll bar as well. We rely heavily in the answer workspace for editing content which most times extend beyond 20 lines. We update answers several times periodically and having to scroll twice make the job more difficult. I wonder if Oracle will release a fix soon.

There is a thread on this here: http://communities.rightnow.com/posts/cced598ab2 not sure if any of that will help, most "workarounds" are basically ditching the editor and moving to notepad++, but you might be able to find something useful there.

Where are we currently on double scroll bar issue? It is very time consuming, uncomfortable and annoying to work with double scroll bar. Do we have any official statement with any estimated time for its resolution?

      Regards,

      Dev

I've got an 18B upgrade site, have opened a bunch of answers, switched to source and back - so far no double scrollbars anywhere.

I didn't see it in notes - although maybe I missed it. I know we had issues with only some PCs though, some were ok. So I'll get a few more guys in my team to install the upgrade version and we'll give it a go. I assumed since it's not in the version notes it isn't fixed, but so far it's looking pretty good.

And yeah, an official reply would be nice.

      Hi Anthony,

      Thanks for the update!

I also updated our Demo site to 18B. I can't say it is resolved, however, I can see that inner content can be completely scrolled down by just using inner scroll bar. You don't need to go to and fro to outer and inner scroll bar to scroll the whole content. It is better, however, good idea would be some official statement.

I have raised a SR a couple of weeks back, and at that time, Oracle technical executive denied to confirm if any such patch has been applied in 18B.
