    Title:
Displaying exchange rate on a workspace
    Content:

    Hi All,

I'm trying to find a way of displaying the current exchange rate within a custom field on a workspace, I've setup an exchange rate within Internationalisation but cannot find a way of pulling that value into a workspace. Is it likely that I will have to instead create an add-in to pull the value from a banking website through its web service API?

The reason I want that value on the workspace is that I will soon need to write an add-in to calculate several fields together inc exchange rate to get a margin value.

    Best regards,

    Gary

Yes, this should be done in a workspace add-in where you build your UI and the integration business logic.  This will allow you to collect the information in real time or as needed, perform your calculations, and then display to the end user in whatever manner you require.  This should be a pretty simple exercise and a good one for learning add-in development.

      Hi Scott,

Thanks for that... so I kinda had the right idea (still learning add-ins but having a lot of fun doing so)

I did start the add-in and it is working correctly for the custom object fields that are in place but I cannot seem to pull the exchange rate value from exchange_rates.rate... do you believe this table should be accessible?

      Best regards,

      Gary

It's not directly exposed through connect web services.  But, you can create a report (or use an OOTB report) that supplies the data and call RunAnalyticsReport to query the table indirectly for the info that you need.
