I have looked into some message template documentation of nov16 here.

    It says:

To add a merge field in the subject, click the Merge Field button (to the right of the Subject field) and select the field. See .

Tip: You can add up to 5 merge fields to your subject line with a maximum of 400 total characters. However, remember that the best subject lines are simple, descriptive, and to the point. Also keep in mind that email clients have their own limits on the maximum number of characters allowed in subject lines. Being aware of these limits will help you determine the best subject line length for your message.

You cannot add merge fields to the subject of print templates or any of the forward-type messages.

So, however this documentation is related to using the merge fields in the subject, it does say something indirectly about the subject length.

If you do some online querying in google you will find that there is some limit in general to 78 characters with some conditions. I leave it up to you what to do with that information.

Perhaps close off this thread, as everything that can be said about it is done I guess.

    Thanks, regards.

It is 240 chars according to doc but it will truncate automatically after 80 chars I guess. PFA.

      Thanks for your information Pramod,

I need to know the length of "Mail Subject". Not Incident Subject length.

      Thanks for you reply Pramod,

Some times I cant give Subject more than 50 and 40.

Can anyone please confirm the exact limit.

Is it based on the Custom Field Length?

      Thanks,

      Hi,

      Just a thought...

Without knowing the precise answer, isn't typing in a lot of characters, sending one email and counting them quicker then starting a topic in november 2016 and still don't know the answer quicker if you really don't know?

      Regards..

I vote 240 but i would no go beyond 80.

      Hi Saravanan,

I do not see a version specified that you are working on.I would encourage you to read through the documentation for your specific version as this may differ (although cannot guarantee).
